Updated: August 21, 2026
Six schools in the state of North Dakota currently offer online bachelor’s degree programs in cybersecurity and related fields. Four of the schools are public institutions that are part of the North Dakota University System: Bismarck State College, Minot State University, North Dakota State University, and the University of North Dakota. Bismarck State College is North Dakota’s first polytechnic institution. The other two schools are private institutions: Rasmussen University, which has a campus in Fargo, and the University of Mary, whose campus is in Bismarck. These six schools offer fully online Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree programs in cybersecurity, cybersecurity engineering, and cybersecurity operations.
All six universities are institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Further, all of the universities except Rasmussen University have obtained designations from the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) program. NCAE-C designations signify that a school has aligned its curriculum with federal standards developed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in conjunction with the National Security Agency (NSA). Bismarck State College, Minot State University, and University of Mary have received Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) designations, while North Dakota State University and the University of North Dakota have earned Cyber Research (CAE-R) designations.
Prospective students should note that the programs offered by Rasmussen University and the University of Mary are bachelor’s completion programs. This means that applicants are required to have already earned an associate degree or have at least a minimum number of college credits to transfer in order to be eligible for admission. However, students with prior college credits may be able to transfer those credits to other schools as well and should consult with an admissions advisor before applying.
