Online Master's in Cybersecurity Degree Programs in Minnesota

Minnesota has four schools that in total offer five online master’s in cybersecurity programs. At present, St. Cloud State University (SCSU) is the only public school in Minnesota that offers an online master’s program in a cybersecurity-related field. SCSU offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Information Assurance. The other three schools in Minnesota with cybersecurity-focused online master’s programs are private schools. This includes Capella University, Concordia University St. Paul, and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Capella University offers an online MS in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity as well as an online MS in Information Technology with a Specialization in Cybersecurity. Concordia University St. Paul and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota both offer online MS in Cybersecurity programs.

All four Minnesota schools mentioned above maintain regional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Furthermore, Capella University and SCSU have earned Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) designations from the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) program. NCAE-C is a government initiative that the National Security Agency (NSA) established in 1999, and which it now jointly manages with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The NCAE-C program provides colleges and universities with optional designations in Cyber Defense, Cyber Research (CAE-R), and Cyber Operations (CAE-CO). To earn one or more of these designations, institutions of higher education must ensure their degree programs align with the curricular standards set by the NCAE-C program and apply for the designation(s).
