Online Master's in Cybersecurity Degree Programs in Louisiana

In Louisiana, there is one school that offers an online master’s in cybersecurity program. Louisiana State University (LSU) is a public university that offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Computer Science with a specialization in Cybersecurity. The program combines a foundation in computer science and programming with targeted training in fundamental and advanced cybersecurity skills. LSU has received a Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) designation from the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) program, a federal government initiative overseen by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). NCAE-C provides optional designations to institutions of higher education offering cybersecurity programs that align their curriculum with NCAE-C standards. LSU is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

Louisiana State University’s (LSU) College of Engineering offers an online MS in Computer Science program with a Cybersecurity specialization. The MS program is offered through the school’s Division of Computer Science and Engineering in collaboration with LSU Online and consists of 36 graduate credit hours. These credits are divided across nine credits of core coursework, nine credits of specialization coursework, and 18 credits of electives. For the core courses, students take one foundational course, Interdisciplinary Research Methods in Computing, before choosing two more core courses from a list of four classes: Introduction to Theory of Computation, Programming Languages, Operating Systems, and Algorithms.

From there, students take elective and specialization courses. The Cybersecurity specialization features three courses in Fundamentals of Cybersecurity, Web Security and Penetration Testing, and Systems Security. For their electives, students can choose from courses that comprise the MS in Computer Science’s other specializations in Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, and Cloud Computing. Examples of such electives include Machine Learning, Foundational AI, Cloud and Enterprise Systems, and Empirical Software Engineering. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to apply for several industry certifications, including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) credential offered by ISC2, and the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification available through EC-Council.

There are numerous institutions of higher education throughout the nation that offer online master’s in cybersecurity programs, as well as master’s programs in related fields like computer science, information systems, software engineering, information technology, and systems engineering that offer concentrations or specializations in cybersecurity.
