Updated: November 17, 2025
Kansas currently has two schools, Fort Hays State University (FHSU) and Kansas State University, that offer a total of four online master’s in cybersecurity programs. The Graduate School at Fort Hays State University has two online master’s programs in the field: an online Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Cybersecurity, and an online MPS in Computer Networking with a focus on Security. In addition, FHSU’s Department of Informatics offers an online MPS in Information Assurance Management. Kansas State University’s (K-State) Carl R. Ice College of Engineering offers an online Master of Science (MS) in Computer Science with a specialization in Cybersecurity. All four master’s programs are offered fully online with no required campus visits.
Both FHSU and K-State are public universities that have received regional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In addition, both schools have earned designations for their cybersecurity programs through the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C), a federal program that is under the purview of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The NCAE-C program offers three optional designations to schools that have met certain curricular standards for professional preparation in cybersecurity. NCAE-C designations include: Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), Cyber Research (CAE-R), and Cyber Operations (CAE-CO). While FHSU has received the CAE-CD designation, K-State has earned the CAE-R designation.
