Online Master's in Cybersecurity Degree Programs in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has seven universities that offer a total of eight online master’s programs in cybersecurity and related fields. Currently, the University of Massachusetts Lowell is the only public institution in the state that has an online master’s in cybersecurity program. The other six schools, Bay Path University, Boston University, Harvard University, Lasell University, Northeastern University, and Worcester Polytechnic University, are all private schools that offer online master’s degree programs in cybersecurity. Through these schools, students can explore programs in cybersecurity, digital forensics, systems engineering, cybercrime and cyber criminology, computer science, and security studies.
All of the seven schools in Massachusetts mentioned above are regionally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). Furthermore, several of the schools have received optional designations for their cybersecurity programs through the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) program. NCAE-C is a federal program that was established by the National Security Agency (NSA), and is now managed by the NSA and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). NCAE-C grants designations in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), Cyber Operations (CAE-CO), and/or Cyber Research (CAE-R) to schools that meet federal standards for their cybersecurity degree programs. Bay Path University has earned a CAE-CD designation, Boston University has obtained both CAE-CD and CAE-R designations, and Northeastern University, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute have all received CAE-R designations.
