Updated: November 17, 2025
Currently, five public and private non-profit universities in Ohio offer master’s programs in cybersecurity that can be completed fully online. The two largest public universities in the University System of Ohio, The Ohio State University (OSU) and the University of Cincinnati, both offer online master’s programs in the field. Franklin University in Columbus, Tiffin University, and the University of Findlay are three private institutions in Ohio that also offer master’s degree programs in cybersecurity. The five schools offer a total of eight online programs with specializations in cybersecurity, cybersecurity governance, health information security, and applied security and analytics.
All five universities are regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Moreover, each of these schools has earned a designation from the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) program, a joint-initiative of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). This means that these schools have been recognized for meeting curricular standards set by the federal government for training in cybersecurity. NCAE-C designations include: Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), Cyber Operations (CAE-CO), and Cyber Research (CAE-R). All five institutions earned the CAE-CD designation. OSU has also earned the CAE-R designation, while the University of Cincinnati has CAE-CD and CAE-CO designations.
